1. Switch Jobs

This first tip is very dependant on your situation. But in 2021, one of the easiest ways to increase your income is to switch careers. A LinkedIn study found that 25% of all millennials will switch jobs this year, and this number is only accelerating. While the study didn’t reveal the motives behind these job changes, several others (as well as anyone who is a Millenial know), the primary factor was an increase in salary. even if it is the same job you are currently doing, it may be worth it to begin applying and changing jobs to make more money.

2. Start a Side Hustle

What is a side hustle? A side hustle is quickly becoming a staple in modern times and is when you start a business that you work on in your free time. Typically it involves monetizing or selling a product or service you’re passionate about but can be anything.

Starting a side hustle can be a quick way to start generating money as soon as tomorrow. Sit down and think about what you do, or what you’re passionate about doing in your free time. Then make a website, or list it in on Facebook Marketplace and start making money by doing it as soon as tomorrow.

There is a lot of controversy surrounding side hustles, and if you’re curious to learn more check out 6 Need-to-know Statistics About the Side Hustle Debate.

3. Join the Gig Economy

What is the Gig economy? The gig economy is where you work as a subcontractor or delivery driver for an app. Think in terms of Uber, SkipTheDishes, Doordash, Instacart, etc.

Starting these jobs can be profitable if you do them correctly and can start paying as soon as the next day. This is a great option if you need money in your bank account as soon as possible and own a car. They are relatively easy to get started with and most allow you to structure your own hours. this means you can do them in your free time and give yourself a little extra income.

They can also pay fairly well! For example, check out how much I earned in only a week of doing Instacart. For a quick buck, this is probably your best choice.

4. Participate in Paid Research

Getting paid to be a research participant in Canada can be much harder than in the United States. In the US, almost anywhere doing research will pay you for your participation, whereas in Canada this simply isn’t the norm. But it is possible!

By using places like Respondent.io you can participate in research studies (that you qualify for) and earn anywhere from $50-$150 per hour of your time. These aren’t very common and they are definitely programmer/software developer heavy. But if you can find a study that you qualify for it will be well worth your time signing up and starting!

5. Sell Used Items Online

This is both the easiest and hardest way to make money. By being real with yourself and beginning to sell things you no longer need, not only will you make extra income for yourself, but you will also start decluttering. But decluttering is hard. As you live in a place for longer and longer, and get older and older, you accumulate more things and start to get sentimental.

But I encourage you to put that aside and look at it for what it is. Have you used it in the last year? If not, sell it. I’m sure the money will get more use being invested after you sell.

6. Rent Out Your Home as a Vacation Rental

If you are a homeowner and you have an extra room in your house you may want to consider renting it out as a rental property on a platform like Airbnb. While you may have to live with a roommate occasionally the extra income could start coming in as soon as the day after you make a listing.

Not only does this let you make use of an area of your house that would otherwise go unused, but you also have even more control over how much money you make. Play around with the pricing and durations to find a nice middle that works best for you.

7. Rent Out Your Car as a Rental

Similar to renting out a room in your house you can rent out your car if you own one. You can do this by using an app like Turo. On the app, instead of going to a traditional rental car company people will go to the app and use it to find someone’s car. If you have multiple cars, or a period of time where you aren’t using your car this may be a great option for you.

8. Do Gigs on Fiverr/Upwork

Fiverr and Upwork are online marketplaces for creatives and professionals to market their skills to people. While UpWork is typically harder to get started on than Fiverr, both are great platforms and can be set up to start making money in as little as 10 minutes.

While using this platform can often get frustrating, especially in the early days, with enough self-promotion and hype you are sure to be able to start generating money on them. There are also a ton of great tutorials on how to get started on Fiverr to optimize your money-making potential. I recommend checking out this one.

9. Negotiate a Raise

Getting raises is one of the hardest things people can do. It can be very intimidating to walk into your boss’s office and ask for money. But you should do it. Monster published an article on reasons why people don’t get raises at work, and a lot of them are psychological. Simply asking is the first step to getting a raise, and may be the only step.

It also doesn’t require you to change jobs, careers, or spend more time working. Even if you don’t get a pay raise, simply asking many bosses will tell you certain metrics that you can accomplish in order to get a raise, which will give you goals to strive for.

10. Sell Photos or Music Online

Are you creative, and have a passion for photography or music? Well, you may be able to make money by selling those online. If you have a knack for photography or the know-how to compile music, you may be able to license those tracks for people to use in their videos, podcasts, etc.

You can get started immediately by uploading photos and songs you already have. You will get free publicity in the works of those who use it and eventually grow your offers and profits online.

11. Walk Dogs on Rover

Rover is a great app if you are willing to walk or babysit a dog in your local area. It can take up as little as half an hour in your day, and you set your own prices. In small towns in particular this strategy will work well as there is likely little competition, but substantial demand.

Getting started on Rover is fairly easy, and you have the ability to set your own schedule and hours. I do recommend meeting the dogs prior to agreeing to have an overnight with them (especially if you have your own pets), but simply walking is easy and you can get started the same day!

Increase Your Income Starting Tomorrow

Above are a bunch of ways you can start making money as soon as tomorrow! While most of these ideas won’t yield you a lot of money, that shouldn’t be expected.
